When we look at the success rate in the IAS exam, one can understand why it is considered one of the toughest exams in India. In the interview stage, the success rate is about 50%. Haritha Kumar's belongs to Kerala. When he was in in his 10th year he started preparing for the UPSC IAS Examination. He always emphasized on self-study and had not joined any coaching class for UPSC IAS Examination. He opted for Anthropology as his optional subject for UPSC Civil Services Mains examination which is descriptive in nature. For current affairs, he completely relied on The Hindu newspaper. "I am happy, tired and busy," says Kumar of the cheerful chaos surrounding her at the moment.
This was her fourth attempt -- she has been appearing for the civil services exam every year since 2009. "I did not qualify the first time. I reappeared the next year and secured 179th rank. The following year my rank slipped to 294. In my last attempt in 2011, I missed being selected for the IAS because I was short of 18 marks.
